    Follow Your Heart

There is something that one has to do all through his life, and I think one of the most important is to make decisions, especially at the time when we are about to leave school, and choose to do something as the next step of our life. Honestly speaking, from the time when we were born, we’ve seldom been brave enough to make our own decisions which will play a decisive role in our life. I believe that not many people choose to go to school, but they are absolutely at school. So time comes when we have to make a decision on our own will, we tend to lose ourselves.

I guess one of the things that distinguish human beings from animals is that we have ideals, something that one actively pursues as a goal in various respects. Life without ideal is a man without soul—dull, gloomy, empty and hopeless. I may want to become a lawyer, you strive for a peaceful life, and she will probably seek for the expertise in English language and literature, and so on and so fourth. I should admit that the ideals could be on different levels, specific or general, moral or behavioral, whatever you can possibly think of. But what accounts is that the ideals should be reasonable and practicable. The wish that a man below 1.50 meters wants to be a popular basketball star could only be called a fantasy.

I totally agree with the notion that the process of life is the course of pursuit of dreams. Once we have dreams, we have hope. Once we have hope, we have power. Once we have power, we have the possibility to face the challenges and realize our dreams.

Some one may easily give up his dream, because he says his friends, relatives or parents exert influence, pressure or even force to make him do what they think should do. That’s always the case that young people may come across, because they tend to think that they are immature, inexperienced to make such a decision, or incapable to hold responsibility for the risk of it. But what I think is that, first, if a man with more than 20 years experience living in this world, is deprived of the right to believe himself of what he wants to do as an individual, it’s quite possible that he would turn to his parents and ask how to raise a child when he is thirty. Second, in terms of responsibility, who can take it through his own life, his friends, parents, or himself? In the short-term, it seems that it’s more convenient and safe to accept the decisions by experienced people, but in the long run, he has given up his own right to lead his life. If one can’t lead his life, what is he expected to do?

Some other people may easily give up their dreams, because they argue that the environment obstructs the process of making efforts. First, I should say that no one is born a president of a company or a professional piano player. Just take a look at the hardships those celebrities have been through which they are proud of, and the striking failures and frustrations they have come across which have made substantial contributions to their success, you will feel that you have been partially favored by life. Second, a person is noble, if you think you are, compared with the surroundings. Considering lifestyle, which one should we choose, to sacrifice our dreams to something that is lifeless, or to take initiative to make good use of all the things that are around you? It’s totally up to you.

I do like the words from Liu Yong, who said “You don’t have to climb a mountain through your life, but you must have one in your heart. It makes you desire to climb up high; it makes you see the hope whenever you raise your head.” A man is not old as long as he is seeking something. A man is not old until he no longer dreams of the sunshine of the next day.

At last, I want to say that DREAM IS WORTH PURSUING, and I sincerely hope that every one of you can follow your heart and realize your dream. Never forget, if you THINK you can do it, you CAN do it!
